2011

It's nearly midnight as I sit here listening to the sounds of the dishwasher chugging away in tandem with Mike's snoring. This first day of the new year has been both entertaining and busy. I spent hours on the food - always with the food - but still found time to enjoy the company of my husband and good friends. The highlight of the day was making the men turn off the bowl games so that the women could watch An Affair to Remember, and yes, we cried a little, as always. The men laughed at us, of course. I have a sort of non-resolution-y resolution; I want more of this. I enjoy entertaining at home, in theory, but rarely invite people over. How's this for honesty? I'm embarrassed by my house. Oh, it's clean enough, but I am self-conscious about every stain on the carpet, every worn out piece of furniture, etc. When I can get past the embarrassment and invite people over, they have a great time, as do I, and no one ever says, "Did you know you have a stain on your living room rug?" One day, I will have the money to replace/upgrade, but in the meantime, I need to just get over it and enjoy the occasional dinner party, despite these imperfections. Sounds like a plan.
